This summer has been a pretty good one. Coming off of my knee surgeries I didn’t really know how well I would be able to rebound and didn’t know if I had what it took to bounce back from injury again. Things started out pretty good but my overall speed and strength has not fully recovered yet. I am getting closer to where I was a year ago and I can tell you I am very glad its time for the offseason. I feel the months of October-December is the time of the year when you can really make gains. I am ready to put in some work and come out swinging in 2011. But before we look towards the future lets take a step back and reflect on the last month of my summer.
The month of August was a pretty good one. I started off by heading over to Salt Lake City for the Western Indoor Motocross Nationals. I had a pretty good weekend battling Grey Davenport and Cole Seibler and came away with four 2nd place finishes. I borrowed my old 250 from Brian Alquist so I could ride both classes all weekend. I really wanted to win a main but it never happened. I rode smart and consistent and was able to come away with a nice little payday. I actually crashed in one of my heat races and banged my knee up pretty bad. It bugged me all weekend so to be able to be on the podium in every main was pretty good.
While in Salt Lake we heard about a race up in Billings, Montana. We filled up the gas tank and drove north to race the Montana State Fair. The same guys were there as were in SLC. My buddy Tiger Lacey showed up as well. I rode really well all night and I had the fastest times in both classes. I ended up getting a bad start in the 250 main but was able to grab another 2nd. I was pretty over getting 2nd and was determined to win the 450 Main. Tiger hole shot but fell on the second lap. He handed me the lead and I was in position to win the main. I ended up sticking my leg out in a corner and jacked my knee again. This time it was so bad that I couldn’t even ride. I ended up rolling around the track and finishing 8th. So PISSED!!!!!!
I took a couple weeks off to rest the knee and get ready for my trip to Mexico. This would be my 4th trip to Fresnillo and I was ready to head down south and break my yearly tradition of winning one moto and dnf-ing the other. Seems like every year its the same, I dnf the first moto cause of something stupid and then I win the 2nd moto. This year I wanted to win both motos and break the curse. I hole shot and won the first moto and thought maybe this would be the year. Second moto I got a bad start and while trying to make a pass into 3rd I crash. It took me so long to get going (cause i fell in the 1 mud hole on the track) that by the time I got back on the track I was already a lap down. So I pulled off and the curse continues.
Last weekend I raced in Sweden at the Ullevi SX. I had an awesome trip and had so much fun. As far as racing goes, it couldn’t have gone any worse. I ended up 2nd fastest in practice behind Chris Blose. I felt really good and was really loving the track. There were a lot of good guys there including Josh Hansen, Ryan Morais, Grant Langston, and more and I was really motivated to have a good night of racing. I pulled a killer start in my heat race and as I am coming into the first turn some squid plows me wide open and lays me out. The crash itself wasn’t too bad but the other squid that ran me over made things 100 times worse. He ran directly over my back and shoulders and mangled my entire upped body. I was so mad because it ruined my entire night. I tried to get up and ride but I could barely even hold on. I crashed again off the start in the semi-final and in the lcq i got a bad start and caught up to 5th. They only took 4 so I had to watch the main from the stands. Can you believe that? 2nd fastest qualifier doesn’t even make the Main.
2 weeks from now I will be racing up in Canada at the Montreal Supercross. After that race I will have some time to regroup and get things together for 2011. Next year I will be forming my own Arenacross team with my brother and should have some cool announcements over the next few weeks. Check back soon!
