January 28th, 2011Major change! No more AX, back to SX
January 27th, 2011Gotta make this quick. Bad deal in Kansas City. Vincent and Brian Alquist (my travel partners) both got hurt and are out for the rest of the season. Financially I could not afford to keep going by myself. Decided to head home and while driving through a blizzard in Nebraska I got a call from Bruce @ Slaton Racing. He offered me a chance to race a Kawasaki 250 at the rest of the Supercross Lites West races. I said yes and picked up the bike Thursday before LA SX. Rode about 45 minutes and headed south. Rode decent even though I was not used to the bike at all. Kinda hard to jump from a 450 to a 250 that quick and even harder to go from a Honda to a Kawasaki. Qualified 16th in times, fell on the first lap of my heat but came back to 9th. Cruised around in the Main and finished 15th.
This week I rode and trained my ass off and feel waaaay better. Hoping to rip it up this weekend in front of all my friends and family at Oakland Coliseum.
*pretty bummed about AX. I spent a lot of time and money preparing for that championship and I am pretty upset I had to come home. Cant be selfish though, and I hope Jake, Brian, and Vincent all heal up and get back soon. I am still doing Reno AX and Sacramento AX though. OK, gotta go.
Tulsa Race Report (round 1)
January 11th, 2011
Well round 1 is in the books and I have some mixed emotions on how the weekend went. Vincent and I came into Tulsa feeling very prepared but a few things were a little off. We left the race very confident that things are going to improve and that we will be permanent contenders at the front of the pack. Here is a more detailed look at how racing went inside Bok Center.
Practice started off with both Vincent and I in the non seated practice. Probably the most dangerous 5 minutes of my life. Some guys were rolling the finish line double and struggling to just ride through the whoops. It made it hard to put in a fast qualifying lap but we were still able to pull off 7th and 11th place qualifying times. We figured once we got into the racing we would be a bit quicker
We were both in heat 1 and lined up pretty far from each other. I was in the very inside and Vince was in gate 6 pretty far outside. I pulled a killer start and came into the first turn second. I made the pass in the whoops right after the start and took the lead. I rode 10 solid laps and cruised to the heat race victory. Vincent had a rough heat race. He got a bad start and got in a pileup on the opening lap. He charged his way forward and made some unfriendly passes on his way to a 7th. Good enough to qualify but not good enough for a front row start in the main.
I got a horrible start in the main but was able to dive inside and come out in about 7th. The first five laps were hectic as everyone fought for position. I tried making a pass in the first turn and washed out. I got up as fast as I could but was in dead last by the time I got going. My bars were bent pretty bad but I rode the best I could and caught back up to 14th, far from where I belong. Vincent had a bad start as well and was in a 5 rider battle for 8th the entire moto until he stalled his bike with 3 laps to, finishing 13th.
Overall we are happy to get round 1 out of the way. We are excited for the upcoming week so we can make some adjustments to our program and bikes. We are going to continue to get faster and stronger and will both be standing on the box very soon. Check back next week for our Kansas City Race Report.
New Team Fueled by Blair Brothers’ Passion for Music Gives New Meaning to the Term Main Event
January 8th, 2011AURORA, Ill. (January 6, 2011) – A pair of new faces are bursting onto the AMA Arenacross Series scene in 2011, driven by a passion for dirt bike racing as well as a desire to perform music for the masses. The Main Event is a term synonymous with the sport of arenacross and appropriately enough, it is the name of the band led by a pair of brothers who happen to be very fast on a motorcycle.
Daniel and Vincent Blair have become familiar faces in the privateer ranks of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, over the last few years. However, the Northern California-based duo making the transition to the AMA Arenacross Series for the upcoming season with their MainEventRock.com Honda team.
“Fun and safety were our biggest reasons for making the move,” said Vincent, the younger of the two brothers. “Injuries have put a huge toll on Daniel and I in recent years. We also believe we have what it takes to challenge for the championship this season.”
The duo have been stalwarts in the sport since the middle of the decade and even made a foray into the AMA Arenacross Series during the 2007 season. That year, despite being behind in readying the team to compete, they were able to find some success.
“Back in 2007 we raced arenacross, but we were a little behind to start because there wasn’t much time to prepare,” added Blair. “We did pretty good considering that. I was able to get on the podium and I’m pretty sure Daniel was right there with a top five. Over the years whenever a race was in (Sacramento) or Reno, we tried to be there.”
Blair continued, “The local races are going to be a lot of fun. There will be tons of family and friends and at the end of the night, we’re going to perform at an after party.”
The music is the lifeblood of the MainEventRock.com team. What started out as a fun side project has turned into a full fledged effort that will ultimately support this season’s racing efforts.
“We played music (for fun),” said Blair. “Then we decided to write songs that weren’t just fast paced, but also helped pump us up to race. This team allows us to tie those two things together and focus on our band more.
“We have an EP coming out in a couple of weeks and our plan is to use the sales from that CD as a budget for our team. We’re also going to have a couple young local riders competing in the Lites West Region with us and all of us together will travel to the races.”
While the team is still looking for additional help, there is little doubt that both Daniel and Vincent Blair are putting everything they have into the 2011 AMA Arenacross Series Championship. And one can rest assure that the siblings are going to have a lot of fun along the way.
“Everyone (in the series) wants to win,” concluded Vincent. “We want to win too and we’re doing everything it takes. Arenacross is really intense. It’s high paced with intense and close battles, so we’re working on trying to be consistent. We won’t know until after first round.”

Riding at Factory Phils SX Compound
October 28th, 2010Spent the last 3 days up at Factory Phils in Cottonwood, Ca. spinning some serious laps. Me, Tiger Lacey, Topher Ingalls, Robert Noftz, Brian Alquist, Jake locks, and Bryar Perry put in some good riding and I honestly am starting to feel like I did a year ago before I got hurt. My bike is awesome and I think we have found the perfect settings for next year’s AX season. My conditioning is probably the best it has been my entire career. I have been shredding up the gym the past few months and even sort of kind of dieting. haha. But seriously I feel great and I am excited for next year.
I will be heading over to Germany in a couple weeks to do the German SX series for EBS Kawasaki. I was supposed to ride for them last year but I got hurt the week before the first race and had to miss out. The team was cool enough to give me another shot this year and I am stoked to be with them. Tiger Lacey will be my teammate over there and we have already been training and riding together. We are gonna do some damage for sure.
Keep posted for big announcements regarding our AX team and the release date on our new CD. The Main Event is going to take over the world very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AX 2011 Update
October 18th, 2010So far preparation has been going great. We rebuilt our Supercross track into a full blown to spec Arenacross track. I have been busting 30 lap motos for the past couple weeks and surprisingly feel in really good shape already. Vincent has been going to the gym like a mad man for the past 3 weeks waiting for his bike to come in. Well the bikes came in today so we will be able to really step up our training program. We plan on racing each other a lot to help get ready for the intensity that Arenacross brings. We will be ready!
Special thanks to Motosport Hillsboro on the bike support this year. Stay tuned for some big announcements in the next week or so regarding sponsors.

End of Summer Update…….
September 21st, 2010This summer has been a pretty good one. Coming off of my knee surgeries I didn’t really know how well I would be able to rebound and didn’t know if I had what it took to bounce back from injury again. Things started out pretty good but my overall speed and strength has not fully recovered yet. I am getting closer to where I was a year ago and I can tell you I am very glad its time for the offseason. I feel the months of October-December is the time of the year when you can really make gains. I am ready to put in some work and come out swinging in 2011. But before we look towards the future lets take a step back and reflect on the last month of my summer.
The month of August was a pretty good one. I started off by heading over to Salt Lake City for the Western Indoor Motocross Nationals. I had a pretty good weekend battling Grey Davenport and Cole Seibler and came away with four 2nd place finishes. I borrowed my old 250 from Brian Alquist so I could ride both classes all weekend. I really wanted to win a main but it never happened. I rode smart and consistent and was able to come away with a nice little payday. I actually crashed in one of my heat races and banged my knee up pretty bad. It bugged me all weekend so to be able to be on the podium in every main was pretty good.
While in Salt Lake we heard about a race up in Billings, Montana. We filled up the gas tank and drove north to race the Montana State Fair. The same guys were there as were in SLC. My buddy Tiger Lacey showed up as well. I rode really well all night and I had the fastest times in both classes. I ended up getting a bad start in the 250 main but was able to grab another 2nd. I was pretty over getting 2nd and was determined to win the 450 Main. Tiger hole shot but fell on the second lap. He handed me the lead and I was in position to win the main. I ended up sticking my leg out in a corner and jacked my knee again. This time it was so bad that I couldn’t even ride. I ended up rolling around the track and finishing 8th. So PISSED!!!!!!
I took a couple weeks off to rest the knee and get ready for my trip to Mexico. This would be my 4th trip to Fresnillo and I was ready to head down south and break my yearly tradition of winning one moto and dnf-ing the other. Seems like every year its the same, I dnf the first moto cause of something stupid and then I win the 2nd moto. This year I wanted to win both motos and break the curse. I hole shot and won the first moto and thought maybe this would be the year. Second moto I got a bad start and while trying to make a pass into 3rd I crash. It took me so long to get going (cause i fell in the 1 mud hole on the track) that by the time I got back on the track I was already a lap down. So I pulled off and the curse continues.
Last weekend I raced in Sweden at the Ullevi SX. I had an awesome trip and had so much fun. As far as racing goes, it couldn’t have gone any worse. I ended up 2nd fastest in practice behind Chris Blose. I felt really good and was really loving the track. There were a lot of good guys there including Josh Hansen, Ryan Morais, Grant Langston, and more and I was really motivated to have a good night of racing. I pulled a killer start in my heat race and as I am coming into the first turn some squid plows me wide open and lays me out. The crash itself wasn’t too bad but the other squid that ran me over made things 100 times worse. He ran directly over my back and shoulders and mangled my entire upped body. I was so mad because it ruined my entire night. I tried to get up and ride but I could barely even hold on. I crashed again off the start in the semi-final and in the lcq i got a bad start and caught up to 5th. They only took 4 so I had to watch the main from the stands. Can you believe that? 2nd fastest qualifier doesn’t even make the Main.
2 weeks from now I will be racing up in Canada at the Montreal Supercross. After that race I will have some time to regroup and get things together for 2011. Next year I will be forming my own Arenacross team with my brother and should have some cool announcements over the next few weeks. Check back soon!
Website down for a bit……time for an update
August 11th, 2010So the website was down for a few weeks. Apparently some jihad piece of crap hijacked my site and a couple peoples computers blew up. But dont worry, we caught the bastard and everything is back to normal. Take a deep breath, time for an update.
So the past few weeks have been quite interesting. After a couple weeks off of racing we headed back to Los Banos for another round of the Top Gun series. I grabbed a third place start in the Main and after cleanly passing my brother, he thought it would be cool to punt me over a berm and send me back to last. I guess he thought that if he did that he might have a chance to beat me…..wrong. I caught back up and got 3rd, passing the squid along the way. We actually kind of had a blow out after the race and he said he did it because of how much I make fun of him for playing Warcraft. We eventually made up and I agreed to lay off the Warcraft jokes. With that being said, Warcraft is the gayest thing on planet earth and anyone who plays it is a total queer……except Vincent
The next week I headed up to Portland for the 43rd anniversary Thursday Night Motocross. Last year I won the race and I really wanted to win it again. I felt a little off all night but still felt I could get it done in the Main. I rode my ass off but had a major issue with my goggles. I got roosted pretty bad on the 2nd lap and a bunch of dirt got in my eyes. I couldn’t see shit the entire moto but still rode to a 3rd place finish behind Bobby Bonds and Jeff Alessi. Not too pumped. But the trip was fun and the promoter Rick Wylder took care of us. By far the coolest race of the year. Cant wait to go back next year and get my title back.
Following Portland I headed down to LA for the X Games. I only had 1 day of Supercross prep before I left but I figured hey its just the most dangerous track in the world I will be fine. Well I rode like crap. I ended up getting 9th in the Main which looks good on paper but I rode horrible. I was honestly a little sketched out the entire time and tried to do the best I could while riding very cautious. The track was gnarly and the start was insane. We headed straight down the parastyle into a big ass freestyle triple. The track was built pretty good but they never really got enough water on it. The main was a dustbowl. I just got my check from the race and I am so pumped!!!! $1000 for 9th place. Wow I sure am making a killing. With that said, I wonder if McDonalds is hiring…….I would like to start making more money.
After the races were over, Rory and I drove straight home and made it in around 3am. I took a shower and headed to the airport. I got a 1 race deal in Canada for the Leading Edge Kawasaki team and was pretty excited to get up their and race a 250 again. I have not ridden a 250 in awhile and actually have never ridden a KX before. I was super tired when I got there and to tell you the truth I never really recovered in time for the race. I spent about 20 minutes on the bike Saturday to get used to it and felt pretty decent heading into Sunday. The motor was insane. Frenchie at C4MX does my motors here at home and he also does the teams bikes in Canada. The motor was probably as fast as my 450. The suspension was OK. We got it dialed in pretty decent but it still felt way different then my stuff at home. Anyways, I ended up going 6-8 for 7th overall. I was not too happy with my results but with the situation it wasn’t that bad. If I had time to prepare and had the bike all dialed in for me I could easily be a top 3 guy. But the trip was fun and I am glad I went up there and raced. A special thanks to Rick and Sandra for the help and hospitalilty. Seriously some of the best people I have ever met.
Last weekend I headed back to Los Banos again. It felt good to be back on the 450. I won my heat and felt pretty confident going into the Main. I grabbed a big old fatty hole shot but in the 4th corner I flew over the berm. Just my luck…..rear brake line out. I tried to ride the rest of the moto without brakes but only made it about half way and crashed. I ended up last and very pissed off. Its been like 4 days and I am still heated. It is one thing to make a mistake on your own and lose a bunch of money, but when your bike breaks its ten times worse. I went home, beat Maggies ass, and went to bed.
